Immigration system failure at Cancun International creates delays for tourists

Cancun, Q.R. — International tourists arriving at Cancun International were faced with long lines due to a system failure. The failure was with the National Migration Institute (INM) system that processes documents for international arrivals into the country.

Travelers arriving on international flights Wednesday afternoon were faced with three-plus-hour lines due to the downed system. The failed system also caused flight delays since the INM system also processes documents for international travelers leaving the country.

Since those operations depend on INM (Instituto Nacional de Migración) authorization, air traffic at Cancun International was delayed, however, there were no reports of cancellations.

According to information provided by the Grupo Aeroportuario del Sureste (Asur), the airport’s managing company, the failure in the system was at the central offices of the INM in Mexico City. The system failure affected INM at the Cancun airport for approximately five hours.
