Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — Speed and hydroplaning are being blamed for a single vehicle highway accident outside Playa del Carmen Saturday. Emergency services were on scene after being notified of the late morning car accident.
An ambulance was called to treat the driver for minor injuries after slamming into fixed highway infrastructure. The man’s car was found in the central median with a heavily damaged front end.
The accident happened around 11:30 a.m. on the 307 near Punta Maroma, a few kilometers north of Playa del Carmen. The car was traveling north when the driver is alleged to have hit a waterlogged area on the highway, causing him to hydroplane and spin out of control.
Red Cross paramedics were called to the scene. He was provided with only first aid since his injuries were considered minor. National Guard Highways diverted traffic around the site of the accident while a tow truck removed the car from the center of the road.
