Cozumel, Q.R. — Three cruises set to dock on the island of Cozumel have changed itineraries. The ships changed course Sunday due to now-Hurricane Idalia.
Disney Fantasy, Grandeur of the Seas and Carnival Conquest were all scheduled to dock in the Mexican Caribbean this week. Disney Fantasy and Grandeur of the Seas were supposed to dock the island Monday, while Carnival Conquest was scheduled for Wednesday.
However, due to Hurricane Idalia, all three cruise ships changed itineraries. Disney Fantasy made the decision to cancel Cozumel altogether, while Grandeur of the Seas has rescheduled their arrival for August 31.
Carnival Conquest, which was scheduled for a full island day on August 30, also canceled due to Idalia.
Idalia passed the eastern coast of the Yucatan Peninsula over the past weekend as a tropical storm. The outer bands of the storm soaked the region as it made its way toward the Gulf of Mexico.
On Monday, Idalia finally passed the Cancun-Cozumel regions of the state and entered the Gulf. By Tuesday morning, Idalia had gained the hurricane strength predicted by the NOAA.
Hurricane Idalia is forecast to reach the west coast of Florida Wednesday as a major hurricane.
