Holbox steps up health protocols during Easter tourist season

Holbox, Q.R. — With the arrival of Easter on the doorstep, authorities of Holbox say they intend to step up covid heath protocols. Holbox mayor Manuel Escamilla García, says that to avoid a spike in coronavirus cases, sanitary measures will be reinforced on the island despite the fact that coronavirus infections have decreased.

“A good influx of tourists are expected on the island starting next week when the main week of Lent begins, and that is why our guard will not be lowered in the fight against the covid-19 virus,” he said.

Escamilla said that meetings have been held with tourism service providers so that they too, ensure sanitary protocols are reinforced in hotels, restaurants and shopping areas.

Escamilla added that both island ferry companies will also work hand-in-hand to enforce health protocols for their passengers. The application of antibacterial gel, the taking of temperatures and the wearing of mouth covers will be enforced.
