Holbox, Q.R. — New CFE transformers installed on the island of Holbox are working to prevent the ongoing issue of blackouts. For years, island residents and businesses were forced to deal with power outages known to occur during high tourists seasons.
However, with the new transformers, the island’s electrical service has seen a large improvement.
Holbox mayor, Manuel Escamilla García, reported that with the change of transformers carried out by the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE), there has been “a resounding improvement of services”, especially in the electrical capacity.
He acknowledged that many islander’s were perturbed for the two days it took the CFE to install the transformers since the island’s power supply was effected. He also acknowledged that the installation is complete and the busy May long weekend passed without any electrical failures due to the high demand.
CFE has been working to replace the island’s old transformers, which were outdated and no longer able to keep up with demand, especially during busy tourist seasons.
