Highway retorno to blame for bus slamming into rear of cement mixer

Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — The driver of a bus was treated for injuries after slamming into the back of a cement mixer. The accident happened Monday afternoon near the police checkpoint at the south exit of Solidaridad.

National Guard were at the scene along with Municipal Police who reported the bus driver failed to notice the mixer break suddenly. The crash happened at 3:45 p.m. along the federal 307.

There were nearly a dozen people on board the bus at the time of impact. The entire windshield of the bus was left shattered. The bus was heading south, transporting Riviera Maya hotel employees at the time of the accident. No one on board the bus was reported injured.

According to preliminary data, the operator of the cement mixer braked suddenly when a vehicle emerged in his path from a highway retorno. That sudden braking caused the bus behind to slam into it.
