Galeana, Nuevo León — Police in the state of Nuevo León found more than 200 hand guns hidden inside a car. The guns were found new, wrapped in plastic and stuffed in various compartments of the vehicle.
The finding was made last week during a routine vehicle inspection. Police from Galeana were reviewing vehicles traveling the Matehuala-Monterrey highway when they made the discovery. One person, the driver of the car, was taken into custody.
According to a statement by the Attorney General’s Office of the Republic (FGR), Sergio “E” was arrested after “police secured war material” in Galeana, Nuevo León.
Elements of the Federal Ministerial Police (PFM) arrested Sergio “E” at kilometer 129 of the Matehuala-Monterrey highway. “When carrying out a review of the vehicle, they located 213 short arms and 421 chargers in hidden compartments and under the seats.”
Sergio “E” has since faced the Federal Public Ministry who continues with the integration of the investigation for crimes of firearms collection and, at the time, to create criminal action.
Authorities did not report where the guns originated or how they came to end up in Mexico.
