Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — With one of the busiest holiday seasons on Riviera Maya’s doorstep, authorities have announced additional security support for Playa del Carmen.
The Secretary of Public Security of Solidaridad, Raúl Tassinari, has announced that in addition to reinforced beach security, two helicopters will also be used. Tassinari says one of the helicopters will be from the navy and the other, the Quintana Roo Police.
“Holy Week means beach, so we have permanent surveillance throughout those areas,” he said explaining that the safe beach operation will include the navy, National Guard and army personnel who will support state police with land and foot tours.
He said there are four Immediate Attention Centers along the central beaches that have 24-hour security cameras “to observe any activity that takes place on the beaches.”
The helicopter flyovers will help reinforce security along the coastal area with an aerial advantage. Tassinari also said they will also be used to help support ground forces in the event of an incident.
