Cancun, Q.R. — The Secretary of State Tourism says that by mid-May, a health certification program will open for companies to register so they can obtain a certification and be included in a list of “safe options” for future travelers.
The Secretaría de Turismo Estatal Marisol Vanegas Pérez, reports the online registration will be open May 15 where tourism companies can register. She says although the certification is currently voluntary, an agreement is being worked on to see the health certification become mandatory.
She explained that the certification guarantees that adequate sanitary measures are maintained, according to criteria of the Ministry of Health, for the protection not only of tourists, but also of workers and their families.
She confirmed that the idea is to have all tourism-related companies certified, explaining this will include all hotels, tour operators, transport companies, etc. adding that everyone is being encouraged to download the forms once the system beings to function on May 15th.
Vanegas Pérez noted that it is the intention of the state tourism board to ensure no tourism-related company will be able to operate without the heath and sanitary certification. She stated that the board has already been contacted by numerous wholesalers interested in knowing which companies are certified safe for their travelers.
