Othón P. Blanco, Q.R. — A section of Chetumal – Escárcega highway was closed Friday due to the collision of two heavy vehicles. Two semis hauling open beds of construction material collided early Friday near the town of Nachi Cocom in the municipality of Othón P. Blanco.
While neither driver was seriously injured, both units were damaged and the road left impassable. Motorists who saw the accident and made the emergency reports said the driver of one of the trucks was trying to pass another vehicle when he met the second large unit head on.
Both large trucks clipped eachother’s front driver’s side as they tried to avoid one another, smashing the engines and leaving both inoperable. Both units came to a stop blocking the only two lanes for traffic.
Emergency bodies were at the scene of the accident to attend to the drivers while police and tow trucks worked on the removal of the two heavy units.
