Group with chainsaws arrested for dispossession of land outside Playa del Carmen

Santa Cecilia, Q.R. — Seven men reported for attempted land theft were detained by police over the weekend. The group were reported by a man who was the live-in caretaker of the property.

He told police that while eating, his son noticed a group of men arrive. They were carrying shovels and chainsaws. When approached, one of the men produced a folder with papers claiming them to be deeds and attempted to evict the caretaker.

Police proceeded with the arrest of all seven. They were taken into custody for dispossession of land in the community of Santa Cecila, west of Playa del Carmen in the municipality of Solidaridad.

The seven men arrested ranged in ages from 23 to 49 and were from Campeche, Mexico City, Veracruz and Oaxaca. When they were arrested, police also took their loaded weapon, extra ammo and two chainsaws.
