Governor confirms five killed in massive Tabasco state fair fire

Villahermosa, Tabasco — Five people were killed early this morning when a massive fire ripped through a state fair. Emergency services were called to Dora Maria Park in the city of Villahermosa early Thursday morning by attendees who reported the massive blaze.

Tabasco Governor Javier May led a press conference at noon Thursday confirming five known deaths and hundreds of small business destroyed.

The fire started around 2:00 a.m. Thursday morning in Hall 1 of the Tabasco Dora María Park during the 2026 state fair and quickly spread.

According to available numbers, approximately 200 small businesses were consumed by the large fire early this morning.

Tabasco Civil Protection released a statement saying “Regarding the fire that occurred this morning in Hall 1 of Tabasco Park, I would like to clarify the following: The flames have been brought under control by emergency services.

Authorities have not released a cause for the May 7 fire.

“During this tragic event five people lost their lives, and we express our deepest condolences to their families and offer our full support in the face of this unfortunate incident.”

Authorities are investigating allegations of an electrical failure linked to the fire.
