Bacalar, Q.R. — A road 21 kilometers in length will be built to connect Bacalar with Ichkabal. The announcement was made after a weekend visit between Governor Mara Lezama and President Andrés Manuel López Obrador.
The road will connect the town with the archaeological site, which will be “an impressive archaeological zone that we will soon show the world,” they reported in a joint statement.
The opening of Ichkabal will allow rural tourism to detonate and promote new jobs and economic growth, they added.
During the meeting, they also highlighted the investment of more than one billion pesos for the archaeological zones, which will also function as an attraction on the train route.
The announcement was made during the President’s recent regional progress work tour on the Maya Train.
