Four reported for extorting PDC street merchants during city fair taken into custody

Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — Four men were loaded into the back of a police truck Thursday on allegations of extortion. The four men were reported to local authorities by street vendors participating in the 2025 Feria del Carmen.

Several merchants approached nearby police reporting being threatened into paying floor fees to work. Officers from the Municipal Citizen Security Secretariat (SSC) located and arrested the four men accused of attempted extortion.

According to the street merchants, the four men were demanding payment to allow them to operate with protection. Members of National Guard also participated in the arrests, providing support to the Municipal Police officers arresting the four extortionists.

The four individuals, who have not been identified, were handed over to the Public Prosecutor’s Office.
