Four listed as serious in single vehicle accident north of Playa del Carmen

Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — Four people were rushed to hospital Friday evening from a single vehicle highway accident. Municipal police, firemen and ambulances were at the scene of the 7:00 p.m. accident that left 15 injured.

According to official information, the accident happened a few kilometers north of Playa del Carmen Friday evening. Municipal officials were at the scene of the accident where a pickup had rolled outside Mayakaba.

According to Civil Protection, 15 people were treated for injures, four of which were serious. Of those, “two were transferred to the IMSS Hospital, one to the General Hospital and one to the private Amerimed clinic due to the severity of their injuries,” PDC Civil Protection reported.

The driver of the pickup was heading into Playa del Carmen when he collided with the central median, causing his vehicle to overturn. The truck was transporting construction workers from a nearby site at the time of the accident.

In a statement, Civil Protection said “in a rapid and coordinated response, members of the Civil Protection, Risk Prevention and Fire Department, together with the Municipal Citizen Security Department and with the support of the National Guard, responded to a serious vehicle accident on Federal Highway 307, on the Cancún–Playa del Carmen stretch, before entering the municipal capital.

“The incident left 15 people injured, of whom four were transported for urgent medical care:

  • Two to the IMSS Hospital
  • One to the General Hospital
  • One to the private Amerimed clinic due to the severity of their injuries.

“The rescue and transfer operation was carried out by Civil Protection and Citizen Security, with the participation of various medical and relief institutions, including the Mexican Red Cross, ERUM, Playa del Carmen, Costamed, Mexpol, and EMT, under an inter-institutional coordination scheme that allowed for immediate care and saved lives.
