Four jailed for swiping police radio during aggressive stop

Playa del Carmen, Q. R. — Four people were handcuffed Tuesday after snatching a police radio from an officer. Officers from the Solidaridad Public Security and Municipal Transit Secretariat arrested them after taking the radio and allegedly physically assaulting them.

Jailed was 28-year-old Rocio N from Tabasco for driving under the influence. Also jailed was 54-year-old Matius N from the State of Mexico, 23-year-old Geydi N from Mérida and 30-year-old Patricia N from Quintana Roo.

The vehicle they were traveling in was told to stop on Colosio Avenue after police noticed the Volkswagen speeding on city streets. Rather than pull over, the driver accelerated.

The car was eventually intercepted and, according to reports, the driver refused to cooperate by presenting his license. The other three from inside the car allegedly got out and began to physically assault the officer, which is when one of them grabbed his radio.

All four are said to have tried to flee on foot, but were captured.
