Fishermen take advantage of stranded snook after Gamma

Chiquilá, Q.R. — Fishermen from the port of Chiquilá took advantage of the snook fish landfall brought by Tropical Storm Gamma. Dozens of fishermen arrived at the port’s boardwalk to obtain as many bass as possible after the seabed was removed by the tropical storm and, to get to safety, the fish sought other waters.

The fishing representative of the cooperative Mira Mar in the port of Chiquilá, Lázaro Vicencio Hernández, said that the recall of fish due to a tropical storm is normal. This, he explained, is obviously taken advantage of not only by fishermen, but by everyone due to the ease of catching them.

He also said that they do not know the exact amount of the snook caught, since most people just took them from the sea straight to their homes. Vicencio Hernández recalled that despite this, fishing has been bad so far this year, since fishermen cannot market their products as a result of the pandemic.
