Fireworks seized from four Playa del Carmen shops

Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — Elements of Civil Protection say they have seized several kilos of fireworks from four establishments. The agency says they made the inspections and subsequent seizure of items after a citizen complaint.

The four stores found selling the items were in the Cristo Rey and La Guadalupana subdivisions.

“A report was received to the 911 emergency line of young people and children who were being exploited to prohibited pyrotechnics. Upon arrival, it was identified that the young people were buying pyrotechnics in a store near the main avenue, near the site of collectives in Cristo Rey.

“The corresponding permits for the sale of pyrotechnics allowed by Sedena and by the Secretariat of Civil Protection Solidaridad were requested, but since they did not have the required documentation, the pyrotechnics were secured for their subsequent destruction.

“There were a total of four establishments where said material was secured,” explained the Civil Protection operational director Emmanuel Hedding Medina.

More than a dozen different types of firecrackers and fireworks were seized from the four stores, said Hedding Medina, who added that selling fireworks without permits and/or to minors, is illegal.
