Firemen use jaws of life to free trapped driver after crashing into semi

Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — Police requested assistance from Playa del Carmen firemen on Monday with the removal of a trapped person from inside his vehicle. The request for help was made after a two-vehicle crash was reported outside the city.

Emergency 911 was alerted to the collision that involved a semi, company cargo truck and a dump truck. Reports say the driver of the company cargo truck crashed into an oncoming semi after not realizing the dump truck in front of him was stopping.

The excessive impact against the semi due to highway speed caused the front of the cargo truck to be crushed inward, trapping the company driver. Police responding to the report of the noon accident arrived to find the man trapped inside his cab.

Firemen used the jaws of life to open a door and free him. Paramedics stabilized the man on site before transferring him to hospital with undisclosed injuries. Driver’s from the dump truck and semi were not reported injured.
