Firemen put out fire set under Playa del Carmen overpass

Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — Firemen were faced with a smokey blaze set by a group of homeless people Monday. The fire was reported at 1:30 p.m. in a section of underpass along Playa del Carmen Boulevard.

Solidaridad firefighters found a fully engulfed section of the underpass at Calle 2 on fire. Passing pedestrians and motorists reported seeing thick smoke eminating from under a section of the bridge.

Firemen arrived to extinguish the blaze that was set by a group of area homeless people. The group were using a small storage space for shelter and had lit several items on fire using a flammable liquid that spread to some of the stored items.

There were no injuries reported, only material damage to the inside of the storage space.
