Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — Thousands turned out over the weekend to celebrate Christmas in Playa del Carmen. Mayor Estefanía Mercado kicked off the Fifth Avenue parade Saturday night with the help of characters including Santa Clause.
On a night full of magic, color and fun, Mayor Estefanía Mercado led the multitudinous 2024 Christmas Parade on Fifth Avenue. The parade was the latest of the activities planned for the families and tourists of Solidaridad.
Fifth Avenue was filled with the arrival of a Magical Christmas with characters such as Santa Claus, Frozen, Ariel, Aladdin, Snow White, Mini and Mickey Mouse.
Christmas lights and decorations on the facades of businesses, as well as corridors of pine trees, candy, stars and spheres, beautified the walk from Constituyentes Avenue to Plaza 28 de Julio where another crowd enjoyed the cultural music at the amphitheater in front of a majestic Christmas tree.
The Mayor thanked the families of Playa del Carmen for participating in the organized events for an unforgettable Christmas. “These dates are full of joy, peace and harmony,” she said.
“It is a real honor to be able to celebrate these wonderful festivities of our Magical Christmas, not only here in Plaza 28 de Julio, but also in Villas del Sol and Puerto Aventuras where the ice rinks and Christmas villages began operating,” she said. “Here in Playa del Carmen, we celebrate Christmas like nowhere else in Mexico,” Mercado added.
On Friday night, the city opened its central public ice rink. Dozens took to the free public event at Plaza 28 de Julio “so that families can experience skating in an authentic environment and for free,” the Mayor said.
The ice rink is opened to children, youths and adults from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m. for the rest of the holiday season. A second ice skating rink was opened Saturday in Villas del Sol and a third, opened in Puerto Aventuras on Sunday.
