Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — The Attorney General of the State of Quintana Roo reports that investigative police complied with an arrest warrant against Álvaro R and Julio H for the crime of extortion.
The FGE says the pair were arrested for events that occurred on April 25 and 27, to the detriment of the owner of a commercial establishment in Misión de las Flores in the municipality of Solidaridad. Police say their first investigation established that the two men required the business owner to pay a sum of money in exchange for safeguarding their integrity and that of its workers.
The owner of the business reported the crime to the Anti-Extortion unit of the FGE, whereupon an investigation began immediately which lead to the arrest of the two men. The FGE reports that both were detained by investigative police and elements of the Quintana Roo Police for extortion as well as a drug-related crime and weapons charges after they were found in possession of drugs and a .38 caliber gun upon their arrest.
