FGE assessing death of man in Playa del Carmen police custody

Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — A man who was being transferred for a medical evaluation after an arrest, died. The incident was reported on Thursday night when a man was arrested by police after a report of sexual harassment.

The arrest was made after a woman in the Villas del Sol subdivision called police. When they arrived, they found the man subdued by neighbors. He was then arrested by police.

The Ministry of Public Security reported that just before being take for a medical assessment, the man reported not feeling well. He was on his way to the bathroom when he reportedly fainted and died.

The support of a medical unit was requested, however, they arrived only to confirm that he did not have vital signs. Elements of the State Attorney General’s Office (FGE) are assessing the situation to identify the reason for the death.
