Ferry passenger dies on Cozumel to PDC crossing

Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — An ambulance met a ferry at the Playa del Carmen terminal Tuesday in response to the death of a passenger. The ferry was crossing to the mainland from Cozumel when a man on board died.

The incident happened during a 10:00 a.m. ferry crossing to Playa del Carmen. The man was in his seat when he lost consciousness. Ferry staff called ahead for emergency services while a passenger on board with medial knowledge attempted to help him.

Paramedics met the ferry at the PDC terminal upon its arrival from the island of Cozumel. On board, medical personnel confirmed the death of the passenger. He has been identified only as a 66 year old man from San Lusi Potosi. According to preliminary information, his death was a likely heart attack.

The man was traveling on the ferry with a female family member at the time of the incident.
