Female deer first animal fatality of New Year

Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — A female deer that was hit by a car in Playa del Carmen has died. The animal was struck along Universidades Avenue in Playa del Carmen Thursday.

Lucelly Ramos Montejo, the Director of Environmental Management of the Ministry of the Environment, says the deer was a 45 kilo female and the first animal fatality of the new year.

The animal was seen laying along the road by motorists who reported it to emergency services. A rescue team arrived and transported the deer to an animal facility, however, it died. It is not known exactly when the animal was struck, only that it was the victim of a hit and run.

Due to the death, the Federal Environmental Protection Agency (Profepa) was notified Ramos Montejo said.
