Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — On Friday, a female reportedly drowned after being swept away on a centrally located Playa del Carmen beach. The accident happened on a beach area near the city’s main Playa del Carmen – Cozumel ferry dock Friday afternoon.
Those who saw what happened attempted to rescue her. She was pulled from the choppy sea and returned to the beach where those trying to help saw she had drowned. Police were called to the scene.
The woman has not been identified.
On Friday, strong winds around the region created waves large enough for Port Authorities to prohibit small vessels. Swimmers along the coast have also been affected by the cold front that is causing the gusts.
