Feds arrest driver after finding over 2.5 million fentanyl pills

Navojoa, Sonora — More than two-and-a-half million fentanyl pills were found hidden inside a semi in the state of Sonora. Elements of the Federal Ministerial Police made the highway discovery Wednesday in Navojoa.

The Attorney General’s Office of the Republic (FGR) said the Specialized Regional Control Prosecutor’s Office in Sonora has begun an investigation after locating the drug being transported in a semi.

According to the investigation, elements of the Federal Ministerial Police of the Criminal Investigation Agency in its Northwest Region were tipped off. The agency received an anonymous tip about the semi’s route and load.

Police located the unit on a section of the Mexico International Highway in Navojoa. During a review of the truck, the FGR said officers found 2,500,514 fentanyl pills.

From the site they arrested Luis “C”, the driver of the semi. The unit and drugs were seized. Police are continuing with their investigation.
