Holbox, Q.R. — Federal inspectors have seized an illegal fishing boat with its gear and catch off the island of Holbox. The boat, gear and 70 kilograms of fish products were seized by elements of the Mexican Navy and inspectors from the National Commission for Aquaculture and Fisheries (Conapesca) Thursday.
Fishing vessel Sarita was located during a federal tour of Quintana Roo waters. During the tour, they happened upon Sarita and her four crew.
The onboard fishermen were found without fishing permits, which resulted in the seizure of the boat, gear and catch. Federal inspectors with Conapesca (Comision Nacional de Acuacultura y Pesca) proceeded to confiscate 500 meters of line with 200 hooks as well as 50 kilograms of snapper and 20 kilograms of grouper.
