Port of Progreso, Yucatan — Federal fishing inspectors seized a boat along with 280 kilos of lobster that was caught without permits. The seizure also included the arrest of five people.
The at-sea inspection took place near the Port of Progreso in Yucatan waters. Personnel from the Ninth Naval Zone of the Mexican Navy (Semar) made the inspection in coordination with the National Commission for Aquaculture and Fisheries (Conapesca).
The inspection was part of ongoing federal surveillance tours to locate poachers. During a tour Thursday, the crew of a fishing vessel was inspected with a fresh catch of lobster they did not have permits for.
After the interception, approximately 280 kilograms of lobster were found on board the vessel, which was also without the required documentation. Following the inspection, the five poachers on board were taken into custody and their boat and catch of the day seized and returned to the Remote Terminal of the Port of Progreso.
