Federal agencies report two active forest fires in Quintana Roo

Chetumal, Q.R. — The State Fire Management Center of the State of Quintana Roo reports two active forest fires. One of the fires, they say, is in the municipality of Bacalar and the other, in the municipality of Isla Mujeres.

Firefighters are attending to both blazes. The first forest fire is 6-hectare fire at La Rejoyada, located 2.3 km from Francisco May in the municipality of Isla Mujeres. The agency says that fire is 40 percent controlled.

In their report, the State Fire Management Center of the State says a helicopter from the National Water Commission has transferred personnel to attend to the Uaymil / El Pucté Norte fire in the municipality of Bacalar, which is said to be a 70-hectare blaze.

To date, 29 forest fires have been fought across the state. Conafor says there are currently 34 active forest fires across the country with 901 forest firemen battling blazes on more than 15,600 hectares of land.
