Fatal PDC hit and attempted run claims lives of two

Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — Two women were the victims of a fatal hit and attempted run Saturday night outside Playa del Carmen. The bodies of both local hotel workers were found by responding police and paramedics along the federal highway around 9:30 p.m.

The women, identified as Cecilia “N” and Claudia “N”, had left work from a nearby hotel and were crossing the federal highway when they were violently struck by a car that kept going.

Coworkers who witnessed the accident called 9-1-1 and were able to provide a description of the car that hit the women. National Guard and Municipal Traffic Police arrived at the scene of the accident along the highway north of Playa del Carmen.

One of the victims was found laying on the highway shoulder after being dragged by the car, while the second was located in the central median. Both were pronounced dead at the scene.

Police began a search for the vehicle alleged responsible for the fatal hit. The black Jetta with two males inside as described by witnesses was located traveling the highway heading toward Puerto Morelos. The car was intercepted by police at the federal highway filter.

Upon reaching the north police filter, the driver attempted to reverse, however, he was intercepted by waiting police vehicles. Both males were arrested from the heavily damaged car. At the scene, two cans of beer were in plain sight of the arresting officers. Fragments of shattered glass littered the front seats.

Local authorities have not made a public comment on the accident or identified the two arrested males.
