Extortionists jailed for threats against PDC business

Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — Police in Playa del Carmen executed arrest warrants against two male persons for their probable involvement in the crime of extortion. The men were picked up over the weekend on allegations of extorting a local business in January.

In a statement, police said “the detainees are identified as Jesús Orlando “N” and Víctor Manuel “N”, alleged members of a criminal group, who showed up on January 15 and 24 of this year at a commercial establishment located on the federal highway in the Ejidal neighborhood to demand payment for floor rights.”

Police said the men demanded the money “under the threat that if the owner did not comply they would close the store.”

The victim filed a complaint, which lead police to the arrest of the men currently in custody.

“Investigative police officers assigned to the Specialized Prosecutor’s Office for Combating Kidnapping and Extortion Crimes carried out the arrest warrants of both individuals on the streets of the Misión Villamar subdivision in Playa del Carmen.
