Extortionist arrested and charged in PDC sting operation

Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — The suspect in an extortion sting operation by Solidaridad Police has been officially charged. Martín Guillermo “N” is facing charges for extorting a Playa del Carmen business after demanding 20,000 pesos a month.

According to police, Martín Guillermo “N” threatened to burn down a store on 135th Avenue if the owner did not pay the monthly floor rights. The owner of the business made the first payment, however, when Martín Guillermo “N” arrived to collect the second payment, he was arrested.

He is currently facing charges of aggravated extortion.

“The events for which Martín Guillermo “N” was charged occurred on two occasions when he went to a grocery store located on 135th Avenue and 17th South Street in the Bellavista neighborhood to demand from the owner the amount of 20,000 pesos per month for the so-called “floor rights.”

“The subject warned him that if he refused, he would burn down the store, so the victim made the first payment then reported it. When he went for the second payment, he was arrested.

“At the detention hearing and after the formulation of charges, the judge ordered the prosecution of Martín Guillermo “N”, to whom he also imposed the precautionary measure of justified preventive detention for the duration of the process,” police reported.
