Explosion on Pemex offshore rig leaves three injured

Campeche Sound, Gulf of Mexico — A fire on the Akal-C 6 platform of Petróleos Mexicanos (Pemex) in Campeche Sound has left three injured workers. The platform was evicted by Pemex and Civil Protection personnel.

Pemex reported the fire started at 10:20 a.m. and was put down in 50 minutes, noting that the three injured workers were transferred to Ciudad del Carmen to receive care.

“The incident was confined to the first level, west side of the platform. Specialized personnel of the fire fighting equipment of the platform, as well as the Mezquital and Atlantis vessels, participated in extinguishing the fire,” they reported adding that after controlling the fire, activities on the Akal-C 6 platform were resumed and operating normally.

Pemex said they will investigate the cause of the explosion on the Akal Charly C6 platform of their Campeche oil rig.
