Electrical wiring likely cause of Playa del Carmen fire

Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — A fire was recorded on the facade of a Playa del Carmen building early Tuesday. Solidaridad firemen were at the scene on CTM Avenue, arriving to a burning palapa.

The fire was reported on the front of a business between Avenues 20 and 25 in the Luis Donaldo Colosio neighborhood. According to preliminary information, the fire started due to a wiring short circuit that caught a section of palapa grass on fire.

There were no injuries reported, only material damage. In a brief message, Solidaridad Firemen said “we responded to a report of a fire in a business on CTM and 20 Norte avenues. The prompt response of the Fire Department allowed the flames to be extinguished. No injuries were reported and the area was cordoned off due to the possible risk of collapse.”
