Mérida, Yucatan — The Ministry of Public Security has confirmed the death of an elderly French Canadian woman in the city’s center Saturday.
The body of the elderly woman was discovered by police after a neighbor called emergency personnel reporting the death.
According to preliminary police reports, agents entered the home when they received an emergency call Saturday morning from a store owner after the woman’s husband went there asking for help. The 75-year-old husband, who is also French Canadian, has been identified as Jean Paul N.
The woman, who has been identified as Henrietta N, was found deceased inside the home with knife wounds. The woman’s husband was taken into custody. No other details have been released.
La Fiscalía General del Estado (FGE) and la Policía Estatal de Investigación (PEI) say they continue to investigate.
