Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — Two drivers were left with serious injures Wednesday after colliding on the federal highway. Emergency personnel were at the scene of the late morning crash site outside Playa del Carmen.
According to early information, one driver attemping a highway U-turn to change direction cut off the second driver in the process. Both vehicles collided, sending one onto its side.
The overturned pickup truck was left laying in the central median of the highway with a seriously injured driver behind the wheel. The second vehicle, a cargo truck, was run off the highway and found hung-up on concrete on the side of the road.
Both trucks were heading south at the time of the collision. Traffic was slowed since the involved vehicles affected both southbound lanes. National Guard Highways monitored the scene until tow trucks removed both damaged vehicles.
