Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — A state police agent, who lost control of his vehicle, crashed into a compact car, forcing both off the highway and into the jungle.
The accident was recorded along the Federal 307 highway near Punta Maroma when the driver of the police unit reportedly bumped against the center median of the highway, causing him to sway in a bid to correct.
During the momentary sway, the unit collided with a compact car, projecting both from the roadway and into highway jungle. Inside the car were two passengers, both of whom received serious injuries. Firemen were called to the scene to free the compact vehicle of its two occupants who were rushed to hospital.
Personnel from the State Attorney’s Office were also on scene to begin an investigation. The driver of the police unit, who receive only minor injuries, was taken into custody.
According to witnesses, the patrol unit was traveling at excessive speed at the time of the accident.
