Driver killed in PDC highway rear-end with semi that kept going

Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — One driver was killed Thursday night in a highway accident north of the city of Playa del Carmen. The unnamed man was pronounced dead by paramedics after being found behind the wheel of his car.

The accident happened around 9:00 p.m. when the male driver of a private vehicle was heading south. Witnesses reported to police that as he approached the corner near Punta Maroma, he rear-ended a semi trailer that kept going.

The front driver’s side of the car was destroyed in the collision that sent the car onto the highway central median where it came to a stop. Emergency first responders requested assistance from the Playa del Carmen fire department in removing the driver from behind the wheel.

Firemen freed the trapped driver using the jaws of life. The deceased driver has not been named. Police have not said if they are searching for the semi witnesses claimed was involved in the accident.
