Chunyaxche, Q.R. — A two vehicle highway crash outside the Mayan town of Chunyaxche has left one person dead. Another seven people were reported injured in the Saturday morning collision.
The accident happened around 5:30 a.m. between two private vehicles, one of which was carrying a load of Tulum airport workers. National Guard highway division along with paramedics were part of the emergency services responding to the accident.
The workers were being transported along the Costa Maya highway in the open bed of a pickup truck when it collided with the private car. The driver of the car was killed. The injured were tossed around workers from the back of the truck.
According to early information, the driver of the private car crossed into the oncoming path of the truck. Upon invading the opposite lane, the two smashed into one another nearly head on. The passenger side of the private car smashed into the passenger’s side of the pickup truck, killing the car’s driver.
