José María Morelos, Q.R. — One dead and one injured is what police arrived to find Sunday morning after the report of a highway accident. The driver of a Quintana Roo taxi van was killed in the accident that happened on a section of the Dziuché federal highway south of Tulum in the municipality of José María Morelos.
The driver died after being crushed in the seat of his taxi van after slamming into the back of a Yucatan-plated car. The car, also a taxi, had slowed down for a pedestrian crossing when the driver of the van smashed into it.
Municipal traffic police and the National Guard were first responders to the 7:00 a.m. call for assistance. The highway was blocked off while authorities dealt with the scene that left debris across both lanes.
