Driver destroys car outside Playa del Carmen avoiding highway jaywalker

Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — A car was deemed a total write off Friday after the driver crashed into a pole. The crash happened about 10 kilometers north of Playa del Carmen when the driver swerved to avoid hitting a pedestrian running across the highway.

The male driver was heading toward Playa del Carmen on the federal 307 when he came upon someone jaywalking. In an attempt to avoid hitting them, he swerved and crashed the front of his car into a light pole.

Employees from a nearby hotel who heard the crash helped pull the man out of his car through his driver’s side window.

An ambulance arrived and treated the driver on site for minor injuries. Police stayed until a tow truck arrived to remove the car. There was no report on the highway pedestrian who is alleged to have been the cause of the accident.
