Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — National Guard Highways responded to reports of an overturned truck south of Playa del Carmen Wednesday. The driver of the dump truck left the road and landed his unit on its side approximately 20 kilometers south of the city.
Due to the height of the truck, a set of low lying power cables were ripped down after being snagged. The single vehicle accident happened Wednesday afternoon along the federal highway.
The driver of the truck was heading south when he overturned, taking out two power poles and two Internet poles. The operator of the truck was treated at the scene by paramedics for minor injuries.
According to available information, the man dozed at the wheel and swerved off the highway. Both the truck and municipal infrastructure were heavily damaged. National Guard remained at the scene to deal with highway traffic while the poles were replaced.
