Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — Playa del Carmen firemen were sent approximately 20 kilometers south of the city early Tuesday to deal with a crushed car. According to preliminary reports, the driver fell asleep at the wheel while traveling at highway speed.
Police and paramedics were also sent to the 5:30 a.m. scene where they found two injured people from inside the crumpled vehicle. The accident was reported after the dozing driver hit the back of a trailer whose driver kept going.
The driver of the car was transferred to hospital for medical attention after firemen were able to free him from behind the wheel of his vehicle. His passenger was treated on scene for minor injuries.
