Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — A canine officer of the Solidaridad Public Security Unit positively marked an abandoned suitcase for drugs at a central bus terminal in Playa del Carmen.
The police K-9 named Mono showed expressed interested in the suitcase that police noticed had been left unclaimed at a downtown bus terminal among dozens of traveling bus passengers. Police also noted that the case gave off the odor of marijuana. Upon inspection, authorities discovered 11 large packages of the drug.
It is the third time in a week that the unit’s K-9 helpers have sniffed out drug packages. Two other packages of drugs were seized from a Playa del Carmen courier company in two separate operations after their dogs detected the presence of narcotics.
