Costa Maya, Q.R. — An American tourist died while diving in Costa Maya waters Tuesday. The woman, reported to be 75, was with her daughter at the time of the accident.
Both women were part of a dive excursion off the coast of Xcalak, a remote community south of Mahahual. They were both in the water when the captain of their boat noticed they were having problems.
José “N”, tour manager of the dive boat Sharon, dove in and was able to save one of the women. The mother, identified as American Linda Dee “N”, 75, was found floating and unresponsive.
Emergency services was requested and the boat met by authorities. Both women were rushed back to land where medical personnel from the Navy were waiting. Naval paramedics confirmed that the 75 year old woman had died.
An autopsy will confirm the woman’s official cause of death.
