Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — Two Playa del Carmen prisoners have been reported killed during an inmate brawl Thursday. Four males were involved in the prison fight that sent three to hospital.
Two of the hospitalized men died. One male suspect remains in police custody. The two dead men died from gunshot wounds they received while inside the prison.
On Thursday, the FGE reported “after the events that occurred at the Solidaridad Municipal Retention Center, this autonomous body opened an investigation against Dariel “N” for his probable participation in the crimes of qualified homicide to the detriment of two victims who were held in this prison.
“Likewise, he is accused of attempted homicide against two inmates who were transferred to the General Hospital. It should be noted that the victims were attacked by a firearm.”
At least four prisoners were involved in the fight that left three injured. On Thursday, the Seguridad Pública of Solidaridad also commented on the incident.
“The Secretariat of Public Security of Solidaridad reports a fight inside the Municipal Detention Center of Solidaridad where three inmates were injured who were transferred to receive immediate medical attention. The prompt response of the elements allowed the situation to be controlled.”
Since that announcement, two of three men died. Police have not said how a gun entered the prison or what the brawl was about.
