Cancun, Q.R. — Although the passing of Tropical Storm Marco did cause several flight cancellations, the Cancun International Airport still reported a busy weekend. The airport’s managing company ASUR reported a dozen cancellations on Saturday due to the threat of the passing storm.
Grupo Aeroportuario del Sureste (ASUR) reported that even though Marco did not make landfall, approximately a dozen U.S. flights were canceled. The company says six of those flights were arrivals from United Airlines, as well as seven departures from United and Southwest for destinations in Los Angeles, New York, San Francisco, Houston, Atlanta and Denver.
After the threat of Marco dissipated, the Cancun International Airport maintained a busy weekend with 195 operations on Friday, 214 Saturday and 220 operations on Sunday noting 108 Sunday arrivals, of which 64 were domestic and 44 international.
Flights to and from Cancun included Atlanta, Baltimore, Charlotte, Chicago, Dallas, Denver, Philadelphia, Fort Lauderdale, Houston, Los Angeles, Miami, New York, Orlando, Salt Lake and San Francisco. Weekend carries were American, Delta, Frontier, JetBlue, Sun Country, Southwest, Spirit and United.
