San Francisco de Campeche, Campeche — An investigation is underway after a Maya Train derailed while traveling in the state of Campeche. The train had just left the station traveling approximately 50 meters with 123 passengers when the last car derailed.

Authorities were notified of the incident around 3:30 p.m. Monday minutes after the train departed from the San Francisco de Campeche station. All 123 passengers on board were evacuated from the train unharmed, Tren Maya reported.
According to their statement, passengers were evacuated from the train around 4:00 p.m. at the San Francisco de Campeche station.
They were escorted from the derailed train by railway personnel and transported by road to the Edzná station to continue their original journey on board another train.
Following the incident, the Railway Accident Investigation Commission was gathered to conduct a technical investigation to determine the cause of the accident.

Until the investigation is complete, the cause of the damage to the last car has not been officially established, Tren Maya added.
Tren Maya reported that the rest of its services continue to operate normally.
