Deceased body of tourist removed from central PDC vacation rental

Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — The body of a dead hotel guest was found Saturday by staff after he failed to check out of his room. An employee from the Fifth Avenue hotel believed the American guest dead inside after noticing a foul odor when she knocked on his door.

Police were called to the First Ave location in the Luis Donaldo Colosio neighborhood in response to the discovery. PDC Tourist Police were first on scene, verifying what was believed to be a deceased hotel guest. Playa del Carmen firemen were called in. They entered the man’s room from the balcony where they found him laying on the floor. Due to decomposition, the man is believed to have died several days earlier.

According to early information, the body found was of an American man who had rented the third floor apartment. The man was reportedly located laying on the floor inside the unit. The case was handed over to Municipal Police who cordoned off the area while authorities worked to remove the body. Authorities have not commented on the death of the man, nor have they confirmed his identity.
